ABSTRACT

Quantum dots are one major milestone for the whole field of nanotechnology because they enable the engineering of light based on controlling the particles composition and size. Over the past 25 years we have learned how to control the solution growth of complex QD structures and to optimize their optical properties for use in commercial products, which led to Moungi G. Bawendi, Louis E. Brus and Aleksey Yekimov being awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2023 for the discovery and synthesis of quantum dots. This talk will review the commercialization history of QD technology starting in the early 2000’s with QD bio-probes to present day products in displays, lighting, and image sensors.
